What I host

Five kinds of room, one job: keep it moving.

Each of these needs a different register. A conference wants precision, a D&D wants energy, a wedding wants warmth. The preparation is the same either way.

About James

Two thousand rooms in, I still prepare for each one like it is the first.

I am James Yang, a professional emcee based in Singapore. I have been on stage for seventeen years: more than 2,000 events across thirteen countries, for 800 brands, for government agencies and for couples. Company gala dinners, national award ceremonies, conferences, dinner and dance nights, weddings and livestreams, hosted in English and Mandarin and switched live depending on who is in front of me, rather than saying every line twice.

That has included the 8th Singapore Silent Heroes Awards in 2021, where the Guest of Honour was Mr Lawrence Wong, now Prime Minister of Singapore. What clients tend to notice is the preparation. I meet you before the event, learn the names and the pronunciations, and build the run sheet with your planner or banquet team, so that on the night I can read the room instead of reading a script.

How it works

By the time I am on stage, nothing is a surprise.

01

The brief

What the night is for, who is in the room, which language leads, and anything that must not be said.

02

The run sheet

We build the timeline together with your planner or banquet team, down to the minute where it matters.

03

The script

Names checked, titles checked, pronunciations checked. Written in both languages where the room needs it.

04

On the night

I arrive early, sound check, meet the key people, and then hold the room so you can be a guest at your own event.

We couldn’t have asked for a better emcee for our wedding! From start to finish, James was incredibly professional, well-prepared, and kept the entire evening running smoothly. His wit, charm, and sense of humour had our guests laughing throughout the night.

James was OUTSTANDING as our wedding emcee. From the moment the dinner celebrations began, he held the energy of the room so effortlessly and kept everything flowing smoothly. Many of our friends came up to us during and after the wedding just to rave about how fantastic he was.

From the moment James stepped on stage, he had the entire room captivated. His presence, energy, and charisma were simply outstanding. What truly sets James apart is his ability to connect with the audience. He made every guest feel welcomed, included, and part of something special.

James was extremely reliable and he knows how to control the situation, feel the crowd’s energy and say the right things at the right time. By giving him the authority to lead the night, we felt like we are in absolute good hands and our guests had an incredibly fun evening!

I was honestly impressed with his professionalism when he arranged an interview with me and my wife to fully understand our crowd, our objectives and what kind of wedding we wanted. Most importantly on the actual day of the wedding itself, James was extremely impressive. He got the crowd and energy in the ballroom to the right level!

Questions

Asked before most bookings.

If yours is not here, the WhatsApp button at the bottom right reaches me directly.

How far in advance should I book an emcee in Singapore?
Corporate dinner and dance season runs at the end and start of the year and those dates go early, so companies usually confirm two to four months ahead. For a wedding, most couples book six to twelve months ahead, because Saturdays in the peak months go first. If your date is close, message anyway. Sometimes it is free.
Do you host in both English and Mandarin?
Yes. I host bilingually in English and Mandarin and switch live depending on who is in the room, rather than repeating every line twice. Tell me the mix of guests and which language should lead, and the script is written that way.
What does an emcee cost in Singapore?
It depends on the format, the length and how much preparation the programme needs. A wedding banquet, a full day conference and a two hour dinner and dance are different pieces of work. Send me the date and the outline and I will quote for the actual event rather than give you a range that means nothing.
Do you write the script and the run sheet?
Yes, together with you and your planner or banquet manager. Names, titles and pronunciations are checked before the day, and the timeline is built so the kitchen, the AV team and the programme all agree.
Do you travel for events outside Singapore?
Yes. I have hosted events in thirteen countries. Travel and accommodation are quoted separately and agreed before anything is confirmed.
Can you host virtual or hybrid events?
Yes. Live streamed, green screen and hybrid formats, where there is a room in front of you and an audience at home at the same time. Both need hosting, and they need it differently.
What happens if you fall ill on the day?
I have never missed an event, but the honest answer is that I keep a small group of emcees I trust and would arrange a replacement at my own cost, fully briefed with your run sheet and script, rather than leave you without a host.

Tell me the date and what the night is.

I reply personally, usually the same day. Send these four things and I can tell you straight away whether I am free and what it costs.

  • The date, and roughly what time it starts and ends
  • What kind of event, and where it is being held
  • How many guests, and which language should lead
  • Anything unusual: a surprise, a VIP, a tight run sheet
